The Military Romance Scam:

You connect with him on one of the dating apps. He says he lives in NY (or the state next to you) and is a personal trainer, you start texting and find out he's in the military and actually stationed abroad (or about to be). But he'll only be there for 2 months (or 2 weeks), and when he gets home he's going to retire.

He wants to find his true love and build a relationship online so when he gets back she'll be waiting for him. He wants to buy a house somewhere desirable and warm. Somehow he's European, most likely Italian, but he grew up in the US and is in the US Army/Navy.

He wants you to be his wife. He love bombs you until it makes sense you could fall in love with someone this way. He sends you flowers to make up for the fact that he's not allowed to use a cell phone on base. He sneaks it to text you (he's a sergeant, so he can get away with it), but no facetime and few phone calls. Of course you can understand?

He has no family (or a small one), his wife died (or she cheated on him and they divorced). He also lost his best friend, either in war or in bed with his wife. He's known so much loss, your heart goes out to him. His only child/children live(s) with his mother or their own mother, depending on the living state of his ex/late wife.

While he's away, some kind of emergency has happened at home. He has to pay for a funeral/surgery/whatever for his mother/child but he can't access his bank account from abroad. He just needs you to loan him $2,000, just until he gets back. $3,000 if you can swing it. He loves you, obviously he's good for it, and he's your one true love, your soulmate. He has no one else in the world who can help him.

What do you do?
